This guide is meant to get you going with a new Ubuntu Linux desktop system that is configured for maximum usability for a new user coming from a Microsoft Windows system. That's most new users.

This guide is not designed to be used with other Ubuntu guides. Everything here is based on more than a decade of Linux desktop use and the setup and support of hundreds of Linux desktop systems.

The guide is kept up to date, more or less, with the latest release of Ubuntu Linux. The current release is Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope).
